Taxus baccata. Air and kiln dried.
All dimensions shown are in inches (diameter x thickness).
One of our most beautiful and popular timbers.
Technically a softwood, yew has been difficult to find in the quality and quantities we need but we bought in a huge consignment from the West Country a couple of years ago, it was milled shortly after arrival and has been slowly air drying since and is now ready for sale and listed below.
Pale to creamy white sapwood, heartwood varying from reddish brown through to bright orange with the odd streak of purple or green from some long ago nail or wire.
With Yew, an artistic opportunity to one turner is an unacceptable fault to another, so please be aware that blanks are very likely to have shakes, knots and ingrown bark which are part of the wild character of this timber and may have to be treated with a cyanoacrylate glue to hold it at times.
That said, when picking for mail order, we dismiss the more ‘artistic’ pieces unless told otherwise.
