Peltogyne venosa. Air and kiln dried.
All dimensions shown are in inches (diameter x thickness).
This timber has distinct purple heartwood which shows brown when first cut before turning purple on exposure to light. Darkens to purple/brown over time.
A hard timber with coarse interlocking grain which quickly takes the edge off tools, so not a one for beginners, but rewarding for the deep purple colour and high shine using cellulose and acrylic sealers or lacquers. Oils tend to give it a dull shine. Used a lot by turners for plums and grapes.
